Get cookin'

I needed something to go with the apron I made Megan for her bridal shower, so I decided to keep it simple and decoupage this little recipe box. It came out so cute it was hard to give it away!!

bzzz

I was at a total loss for a birthday gift for my friend Nick, but then suddenly it came to me. It was a fun return to a craft I have not done in a while. This particular pattern came from Subversive Cross Stitch .

Aprons Aprons Aprons!

Well I am seriously behind on my blogging, so I am going to try to catch up a little here. I am still in my apron phase, but I have experimented with a few other patterns. After being inspired by a few things I saw at the renegade craft fair I made the little black dandelion apron for Danica. She is selling jewelry at a farmers market this summer so I thought she could use some pockets for her cash. I drew the dandelion on with a bleach pen. I do not totally love the red color i ended up with but I was too impatient to wait for a different color to develop.

The yellow apron is back to my old pattern, but I love that pattern and the aprons come out so cute!! I made that one as a bridal shower gift for my cousin Megan, but my friend Lindsay also has one just like it that I gave as a birthday gift.

Finally this little brown and pink ruffled apron was a gift for my friend Allie for her bridal shower. It was much easier than expected and made solely from fabric scraps I had left over from Christmas so it was definitely a success!!

dos pasteles

So I taught two cake decorating classes in April which seriously cut into my free/crafty time. For the fondant class I was teaching I had to demonstrate covering a cake board with fondant and making marbleized fondant. So I made this freaky cake and then covered it with bunny peeps, and gave it to the boys across the street.

I did manage to make one "real" cake. I am kind of happy with how it came out. I messed with my frosting recipe a little bit and I think it came out too salty. I also mixed my icing colors in near darkness so in the light of day the border color is HARSH but you know at the end of the day its just cake. I made this
cake for my intern's last day this semester. The faces are royal icing with edible marker, everything else is buttercream.

Getting there

I just wanted to give a quick update since I haven't posted in a while. I have been crafting, I made Cheryl and Jon a giant 2 volume scrapbook of their wedding. I also sewed Sally a lovely birthday apron. I am getting ready to re-launch my etsy store so keep an eye out for that announcement as well. In the mean time myself and most of my friends have gotten really into this idea of making 101 goals to finish in 1001 days. As part of my goals i have joined postcrossing and am excited to begin exchanging postcards!

More birthday fun

I am just super into making these preschool birthday cakes right now. Our other 3 year old girl turns 4 this week. She asked me for a baby cake but ignored that. Her best friend said i should make a princess cake which is what i set out to do, but in the end I just make a Kiaree cake. Its a lot of cake. The base is a 9x13 sheet cake with pink frosting. Her head is a cake I baked in a 6 inch round pan and then shaped a little with a knife before I iced it. Her pig tails are cupcakes, and her hair ties are fruit by the foot and rolled up Starburst candies. I was totally lazy and trying to clean out my cupboard a little so all the cake is box cake and all the frosting is store bought, but really its for a bunch of kids so it being pretty is really the most important part, right?

Through the Year......

I realized today that I never posted pictures of the calendar I made Cheryl for Christmas. Every page is different and the entire thing is just a huge collage of paper and fabric and photos and glue. Please try to ignore the fact that I completely did not clear off my table before i started taking pictures of the pages!

Catching up

This week I am going to try to get all caught up and finish posting some of the cute things I made earlier this winter so then I can just focus on the present. I made these silhouettes for my sister, they are of her cats Harper and Harley. They are a more classic version of the (large) series I made Cheryl last year of her zoo of pets. This is a picture Amy sent me of the silhouettes hanging above her desk.

So soft

I decided to make my mom a white scarf for Christmas with this ball of super soft white yarn I got at Michael's on clearance forever ago. But that one ball did not exactly go far, but neither did my knitting and i had a scarf that was only 8 inches long by Christmas day. I found two more skeins of the yarn and kept going and finished the scarf for her birthday last week. It showcases all of my knitting skills, which are not really that varied and are only good for scarves but whatever, scarves are nice!

Otanjou-bi Omedetou Gozaimasu!

In honor of Mom's birthday we went out for a fun family dinner at a Japanese restaurant and I made this cake. Its yummy devil's food chocolate on the inside! It was not my most impressive cake but I thought it was pretty enough to share

Happy Birthday Makiah!

So there is this little girl in the preschool/daycare where I work who is obsessed with me and babies, so in honor of her 4th birthday I made her these adorable cupcakes from the Hello Cupcake book I got for Christmas. They were actually not too hard and came out super cute. My little friend loved them so much that she told me that on my birthday if she finds a lot of money she will have her homeboy take her to the store and buy me a pack of gum, so that is pretty sweet.

Headaches and victories

This year I thought it would be just a great idea to sew aprons for my friends for Christmas. This probably would have been a good idea if i knew how to use my sewing machine. I of course als picked out an unrealistically difficult pattern, but with a lot of work, a few tears and some help from my mom I managed to make it work. The last one I made was for Cheryl (who had to wait until January 5th to get her gift) and all the extra time paid off as it came out very cute if i do say so myself!!!

Curiouser and curiouser!

I wonder if I've been changed in the night? Let me think. Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I'm not the same, the next question is 'Who in the world am I?' Ah, that's the great puzzle!
